Coxsackie-Athens Schools Appoints Michael Elliott as New Middle School Principal

Coxsackie, NY Oct. 31, 2024 - The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District is proud to announce the appointment of Michael Elliott as the next principal of Coxsackie-Athens Middle School, effective November 4, 2024. Mr. Elliott brings an impressive array of leadership experience, academic credentials, and a deep commitment to fostering educational excellence.

Mr. Elliott holds a Master's degree in History Education and a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, both from the State University of Albany, as well as certifications in School Building Leadership and School District Leadership from St. Rose College. He began his career as a Social Studies teacher before transitioning to various leadership roles, including his most recent position as the Director of Social Studies, ENL, and World Languages at Niskayuna Central School District.

Throughout his career, Mr. Elliott has demonstrated a passion for curriculum development, instructional leadership, and promoting equity in education. He has led efforts to upgrade curriculum resources, support marginalized student populations, and champion initiatives that enhance academic outcomes for all learners. His leadership roles include managing student discipline, overseeing academic departments, and collaborating with stakeholders to support student success. He has also served on numerous committees aimed at fostering inclusion and belonging within school communities.

Superintendent of Schools Randy Squier stated, "We are looking forward to welcoming Mr. Elliott as our new leader of the middle school. Mike brings a wide range of skills and quality experiences that will help him inspire our students and staff toward achieving their extraordinary success."

The district would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kerry Overbaugh, who has served admirably as the interim principal since August.
