Allison Burns Appointed as Coxsackie-Athens
Principal for Student Support
Coxsackie, NY — Oct. 31, 2024 — The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Allison Burns as the new Principal for Student Support, effective this November. With her background in teaching and a commitment to student and staff wellness, Burns is set to bring an innovative and supportive approach to her role, enhancing the District’s focus on wellness, restorative practices, and readiness for all students.
In her new position, Burns will oversee various support services, including counseling, nursing, and wellness, to foster an inclusive and positive school climate. She will also play a key role in integrating career and life readiness skills across classrooms, ensuring students are equipped with the skills they need to thrive beyond their school years. Additionally, Burns will lead initiatives in community building practices and contribute to the district-wide wellness committee, aligning with Coxsackie-Athens’ commitment to a holistic educational environment
Superintendent of Schools Randy Squier expressed his confidence in Burns' leadership and vision, stating, "She has impressed me as a teacher and administrative intern. She has impressed her colleagues with her attitude, interactions with students, parents, and colleagues. She understands the needs this position can address and is committed to keeping staff in the communication loop. Her ideas for expanding wellness and overall positive school culture will be welcomed."
Burns’ professional journey includes teaching roles as a FLEX Teacher in Global and English at Coxsackie-Athens High School, where she developed differentiated lesson plans and collaborated with colleagues to create student interventions. She also brings experience from her time at Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls and holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Bard College. Currently, she is advancing her certification for School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) through the Massachusetts College of Liberal Art. Therefore, her appointment will be in an internship role until her certification is completed.
