Dear Coxsackie-Athens CSD Families, Faculty and Staff,
This afternoon, Coxsackie-Athens CSD administrators were notified of a threatening comment made by a student on a transfer bus to Edward J. Arthur Elementary School.
Following an investigation by law enforcement and school officials, along with the precautionary measure of searching backpacks of those on the bus, there is no threat to Coxsackie-Athens CSD schools. The student claimed the threatening comment they made was a joke.
There is no higher priority in the Coxsackie-Athens CSD than maintaining safe and secure school environments for teaching and learning. We take any report seriously and begin investigating it immediately. The District involves law enforcement when appropriate. If necessary, the District activates emergency procedures.
This incident calls attention again to the importance of our online reporting system, StopIT, as we remind everyone in our school community, if you see or hear something, say something.
We will be reminding all students about the importance of immediately notifying a trusted adult when they see something online that is worrisome, along with the power of their words and actions.
The District would like to thank our first responders and school officials for quickly assessing the situation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the District Office at 518-731-1710.
Sincerely,
Randy Squier
Superintendent of Schools
Coxsackie-Athens CSD
