Coxsackie, NY – August 15, 2024 – Coxsackie-Athens Schools is excited to welcome Dr. Kerry Houlihan as the new Principal of Coxsackie-Athens High School. Dr. Houlihan officially began her new role on July 1, 2024, after serving as the district's Assistant Superintendent of Instruction since 2010.

Dr. Houlihan brings a wealth of experience and a district-wide perspective to her new position, making her an ideal leader as Coxsackie-Athens High School prepares for some of the most transformational changes in NY education. With New York State implementing new graduation measures and phasing out the requirement of Regents exams for graduation, Dr. Houlihan’s leadership will be crucial in navigating these changes.

Over the past 20 years, Coxsackie-Athens High School has seen its graduation rate rise significantly, from the mid-70% range to consistently achieving over 90%. The class of 2023 reached an impressive 93% graduation rate. Dr. Houlihan will lead a dedicated faculty that is committed to ensuring all students are prepared for post-secondary life by offering a diverse range of courses and providing additional support when needed to help all students succeed.

In her previous role as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Dr. Houlihan oversaw several key initiatives, including the piloting of new reading curricula, the expansion of student support systems, the implementation of new teacher evaluations, and the growth of the summer term. Her experience in these areas will be invaluable as she takes on the challenges and opportunities at Coxsackie-Athens High School.

Superintendent of Schools, Randy Squier, expressed his confidence in Dr. Houlihan’s ability to inspire both staff and students. "I know Kerry will bring a district-wide perspective to the high school, which will benefit our entire school community. She truly believes that all students can learn at high levels, and I look forward to her high expectations inspiring our faculty and students to achieve extraordinary success," said Superintendent Squier.
