The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District would like to congratulate its 18 varsity teams that have qualified the District to be recognized as a 2023-24 “School of Distinction” by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for a fourth consecutive year!
“Our student-athletes’ ability to prioritize academics while maintaining a competitive nature for their athletic season is truly admirable,” said Coxsackie-Athens Central School District Superintendent Randy Squier. “The high standard being established by our Riverhawks inside the classroom and in extracurricular activities is one I am certainly proud of.”
Schools can apply for School of Distinction status if 100% of their varsity teams qualify for and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award during their respective sports seasons.
“The efforts made by student-athletes in the classroom are paramount to their success in the athletic arena, and beyond their high school days,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “We are proud of those who put in the work as ‘student’ and ‘athlete’, as well as the growth in both School of Excellence and Distinction recognition.”
The District will receive its commemorative award at its local athletic director workshop this fall.
